The term benign prostate enlargement (BPE) describes the growth of the prostate, which can affect how you urinate (pee).

It is common for men over the age of 50 to suffer from BPE. In most cases, it is not cancer and does not pose a serious threat to health.

Prostate cancer is a major concern for many men who have enlarged prostates. This is not true.

Men with an enlarged prostate do not have a higher prostate cancer risk than men without an enlarged prostate. Let’s dive into this blog to learn more about HoLEP Surgery in Ludhiana and other treatment procedures.

Symptoms

Your urine flow can be affected by benign prostatic hyperplasia through several symptoms. Multiple symptoms can occur at once.

  • A decrease in urine flow
  • Urine flow is weak
  • Unfulfilled bladder sensation
  • Requires frequent urination
  • Struggling to start or pass urination
  • During urine flow, dribbling occurs
  • Frequent urination
  • The urge to urinate increases
  • Urinating more often at night
  • Urination or ejaculation pain
  • Different-looking or feeling urine

Treatment for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)

In TURP, the obstructing tissue is removed using a resectoscope. This is similar to emptying the core from an apple to create more openings in the urethra.

  • Laser surgery

As with traditional scraping, when TURP is performed with a laser instead of conventional scraping, the procedures are similar but named differently. There are three types of laser ablation: Holmium Laser Ablation (HoLAP), PVP and Greenlight. Using a laser fibre, a physician delivers bursts of energy to vaporize prostate tissue obstructing the urethra.

  • Alpha-blockers

By relaxing the prostate muscles, these medications make passing urine easier. Alpha-blockers work well on relatively small prostates. In addition to lowering blood pressure, these medications can cause dizziness and retrograde ejaculation (the semen returning to the bladder instead of leaving the penis). Within days to weeks of taking these drugs, their effects begin to manifest.

  • Transurethral needle ablation

An intraurethral scope and a needle will be passed through your urethra to access your prostate gland. Radio waves released by the needles will heat and destroy the tumour-blocking prostate tissue.

Summary
